"Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his." Daniel 2:20
The chapel offerings during the month of March covered a broad range of projects. The Hearts for Jesus project was completed and $407.00 was sent to the Bradshaws for their work in Macau. During Lutheran Schools Week, students and grandparents gave $160.33 to Orphan Grain Train. March 12th offering of $41.25 was given on the home building project. The March 26th offering of $53.76 was given to the Hollenbeck family to support their child with special needs.
Our April offering is designated for Children’s Christian Concern Society which is now doing mission work in 17 different countries.
Students at our school are now involved in the Lutheran Church Extension Fund Stamp savings plan. Children are given the opportunity to purchase saving stamps each Friday that will establish a savings account for their future use. This program will also give parents, grandparents and sponsors a way to gift these children on special occasions. Several grades have been involved in the Crown Ministries Curriculum that deals with managing the gifts that God has given us. Many of our Bible Stories in the Kindergarten and First Grade Classroom, have been about being servants for the Lord. Mrs. Williams did her annual "washing of the feet" for all the students in her classroom. We know that could not have been a "fun" job for anyone and we also found out how many of us have ticklish feet! Praise the Lord for running water! We also enjoyed a visit from Trent's dog, Heide. Emma brought 2 of her younger cousins to visit our classroom. Thanks for coming boys! We would also like to thank Layne for bringing us treats one day for our snack time-they were really good. Mrs. Williams enjoyed having a Parent-Teacher Conference with all the parents. The students have many great talents and abilities. We continue to pray to God to help us to guide them to use them to His glory! We have many activities coming up during the last month of school-keep us in your prayers!
The 2nd-4th graders enjoyed Earth Day at the zoo. Besides seeing the animals, they also visited many exhibits that encouraged us to take care of the earth God gave to us.
They are finishing their journey across the United States as they study the northeastern states and learn some of the early history of the United States. It's been a great trip! 2nd and 3rd graders will participate with other 3rd graders at the Kansas Kids Fitness Day. Lots of fun physical activities will be held that day. On Friday, April 18, the entire school presented "Kings, Dreams and Schemes" with "Rescue in the Night", a musical about the adventures of Daniel. The children worked hard to prepare the songs and dances for the show. They want to thank all the parents, family and members of the church and community who came to the performances at 1:30 and 7:00. We pray that everyone enjoyed the show and will "Dare to be a Daniel" in their daily lives.
The 5th & 6th grade class had a busy month. In reading, we completed a novel study on Tuck Everlasting. We discussed what it would be like to live forever. We completed a unit on India in social studies and also compared Christianity to some of the other religions in the world. We are continuing our study of fossils and the geological time scales. We have used some material from "Answers in Genesis" to further explore the biblical perspectives of the creation of our earth. We completed our math and reading assessments as well as worked on the musical. We also baked 18 dozen cookies and other goodies to serve at the musical.
The 7th and 8th graders had a very busy and productive month in April. In History, we have been studying WWII and read the book, "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas." We were shocked by the ending, but enjoyed the book very much. We had Jim Kampling visit our class and speak to us about his experiences in WWII. We appreciate his willingness to share with us. In science we have been studying rocks and minerals. Along with the 5th and 6th grade class we visited the Salt Museum in Hutchinson. We enjoyed this field trip very much. Brenda Matson also visited our class and shared her knowledge and mineral collection with us. She did a mineral lab with us and even let us break open a mineral and a geode. Thank you Brenda!
Several dads visited the 7th and 8th graders on Dad Volunteer Day. Tim Rosenhagen and Rick Wulf were able to spend the whole day with us while Steve Schomacker, Larry Hillman and Pastor stopped by to cook us lunch. Thank you to all the dads for all the help you gave us during the day. We enjoyed having you spend your day with us.
We spent two weeks in April taking state math and reading assessments. We are glad to have those behind us. We have also been working hard at the track and physical fitness testing. The 7th and 8th grade had their first track meet at Cheney on April 7th. We had a great day with several of our kids placing and bringing home 1st place ribbons. We have our league track meet on Tuesday, May 6th at 1:00 at the Cheney High School track. Stop by and enjoy a great afternoon cheering on our athletes.
